We encourage all teachers to develop a web page for their classroom. With the new version of FirstClass, creating a web page is as simple as writing an e-mail. Training will occur throughout the 07-08 school year. You can also take advantage of the following tutorials:
A classroom web page is an extension of the learning environment; a central place to access information at any time. Classroom websites also provide teachers with the ability to communicate with students and parents beyond the school day.

Overview of FirstClass
1. FirstClass Web Pages are created using the FirstClass software. You log into FirstClass and open Web Publishing.
2. Each page created within the Web Publishing folder will be a part of your website. The order of the pages listed in the web publishing folder is the order they will appear in your navigation map on the side of your web page. The order can be changed by dragging them to the correct position.
3. This Web site will guide you through the steps of creating your own web page.
4. The URL used to access your web page will be:

Downloading FirstClass
1. If you want to avoid downloading and installing software, FirstClass is accessible through a web browser at: http://www.havsd.net/login
Note: The steps provided in this Teacher Support Web Site are for the client downloaded version of FirstClass that is described below in step 2.
2. For those who want to install the software at home the software can be downloaded from:
1) Pick your appropriate platform
2) Click the link for "step 1"
3) DO NOT CLICK THE LINK FOR STEP 2
4) Launch application after download
5) Click Advanced button on Login Screen
6) Click Setup

Creating New Pages
1. Log in to FirstClass
2. Click on the Web Publishing Icon on your desktop of FC (depending on your view)
3. Click on New Web Page from the toolbar:

Types of Web Pages
This next window shows you all the different types of web pages (templates) you can create with FirstClass. Select the type of web page you want to create. If this is your first page, I suggest you pick the Welcome page.

5. View your web site looks like on the web
To see your web site on the web, click View in Browser.
6. Change the appearance of your web site
To change the overall appearance of your web site:
Click Appearance.
Select the template you want your web site to use.
To see your choice, click View in Browser.
How to Add Text to a Web Page

You can also copy and paste text from a word processing document into your web page.

Creating Tables (tables are optional, but they may help provide some structure to your page).

1. To create a table click on "Insert..." and select table from the list.
2. A New Table window will be displayed. You can set the number of rows and the number of columns for your table. You can determine the alignment (left, center, or right). In addition, you can decide on a fixed width (pixels) or a width based on a percentage of the page.
3. To change the attributes of a table you can click on the table to select it and then you can either select "Format Table" from the "Table..." list or from the menu at the top of the page.
4. In the Format Table window there are options to change the table layout, cell layout and borders of the table.
Adding Links to a Web Page
1. Highlight the text you want to link
2. Click on the Insert icon (blue arrow)
3. Type in the URL of you link
4. Click OK
